Nicotine Pouches Vs Snus

Nicotine Pouches VS Snus. 2 Brand New ways to Stop Smoking! What’s the Difference, and which is better? ELQD ECIGS April 2024 News

Snus and Nicotine pouches, two products which have come into the spotlight recently in the world of smoking cessation. They are often confused for being different names for the same product but they are very different! Throughout this article we aim to describe each of the products in turn, highlighting some key differences.

This is an article by Adam at ELQD ECIGS, any opinions expressed throughout this article are my own and do not necessarily represent the opinions of others.

Swedish Snus: What is it?

Snus, or Swedish Snus as it is also known, is a form of oral tobacco product which has history dating all the way back to the early 1800s, with one of the oldest known Snus producers being registered in 1822. For more information on the history of this company, click the link here! (the page is in Swedish, but Google Chrome does a very good job at translating it!) Originating in Sweden, Snus is a powdered tobacco product which often comes in pouches known as “portions” which contain powdered tobacco leaves, water & sodium carbonate as the 4 main ingredients.

These pouches are often flavoured with simple flavourings such as mint or menthol and are used as an alternative method to smoking traditional cigarettes. You won’t see any of these products on sale in the UK however as the sale of oral tobacco products was banned in the UK in 1992, which includes Swedish Snus.

Nicotine Pouches: What are they?

Nicotine pouches are another smoking cessation aid, which offer a smokeless, vaporless alternative to smoking traditional cigarettes. They disperse nicotine into the bloodstream via absorption through the gums. They first hit the UK market around 2000, shortly after the ban on oral tobacco products. They contain nicotine extracts & plant-based or gum based fillers. Most brands come in a variety of flavourings, everything from traditional mint, fruit flavours and even some come in flavours such as cola!

The main draw of pouches for those who use them is the fact that they are smokeless, meaning that there’s no need to step out in order to use them, they’re discreet enough to use anywhere. There’s also no qualms about using them on aeroplanes so they’re great for travelling. They’re also handy if you work long hours in a dusty environment, where debris and dust will cause your vape to get clogged up often, meaning that you can’t use it without having to clean your vape prior to use!

What’s the Difference?

There are a few main differences when it comes to Snus VS Nicotine Pouches(NP).

  • NPs are Tobacco Free meaning that you get all the nicotine with none of the drawbacks of tobacco
  • NPs come in many more flavours, meaning that you can definitely find something that suits you
  • NPs often come in much smaller sizes than traditional snus, meaning that they are much more comfortable to use for extended periods of time.
  • NPs are often available in multiple strengths ensuring that you can find one that is right for you on your journey to becoming smoke free!

Nicotine pouches are another viable option for those making their journey to quitting smoking who find that other options are not working. We have multiple flavours and strengths available which you can find on our website at this link! These are definitely worth a try if you’re planning a long journey soon or just want to try something different to your usual methods!

As for which of the 2 products is better, we’d argue that Nicotine Pouches take the win in this department as they are readily available in the UK and do not rely on tobacco to supply that nicotine hit which is so vital in the journey to becoming smoke free!
